Tattoo and fashion might seem worlds apart, but an incredible synergy does exist between the two, and their sparks will put the art of ink on the international map.
Embark on an inspirational voyage at K11. This summer, K11 Art Mall proudly presents Fashion Fusion: Tattoo x Threads, an exclusive exhibition ingeniously curated to explore the infinite possibilities between fashion and the art of tattoo. The interactive exhibition leads the audience to explore how tattoo blends into fashion and lifestyle, with pieces that encapsulate both vibes and intensity. The show is part of a series of exclusive activities celebrating the 10th anniversary of K11 which adds to the immersive experience that delves into tattoo’s relevance to fashion and daily life.
The exhibition is a crossover project between an extraordinary line-up of international tattoo artists and BA Fashion Design with Knitwear students from the prestigious Central Saint Martins, with a view to deciphering the art of tattoo in the language of fashion. Fluid lines of coloured ink become delicate threads in knitwear, symbolising the synergy between the two creative worlds.
During the exhibition period, K11 broadens the audience’s knowledge about this artistic genre, bringing the art of ink to the status of haute couture.
The atrium will become a public art space, where visitors are invited to join the art jamming sessions in the interactive zone to create their own Surprise Box glitter painting. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of K11, the K11 Art Mall proudly leads visitors to an experiential journey in an exclusive venue divided by six themed zones displaying multisensory, interactive pieces that offer an exciting way to explore the top ten encounters surrounding K11 Hong Kong!

10 International Tattoo Artists & 9 Central Saint Martins Students
Walk into a special transparent device to experience the illusion of “wearing” the tattoo design.
Despite its rising popularity, tattoo is still rarely associated with fashion. Tattoo Threads is an experiment pushing the boundaries of fashion and blurring the division between pop culture and art. This talk-of-the-town exhibition unites 9 BA Fashion Design with Knitwear students from Central Saint Martins and 10 world-class tattoo maestros, namely Gabe Shum; local tattoo artist Akai Wong, Jun Ngai and Keno Lee; Lao Dao (Zhao Ben) from Beijing; Sajin from South Korea; Sousyu Hayashi from Japan; Bez from the UK, Marjung Lama (Maria) from Spain; and Davee Blows from Poland.
Taking these ten tattoo artists’ unique styles and subjects as inspiration, the young design mavericks boldly reinterpret the essence of tattoo from an avant-garde, contemporary perspective. The fascinating work by the tattoo artists also merges with different art forms, such as neon light installation, graphics, videos, and projections. The audience can also walk into a special transparent device to experience the illusion of “wearing” the tattoo design. Gothic literature, poetic graphics, cutting-edge images become dominant influences behind this one-of-the-kind combination of tattoo and fashion, bringing street culture to the realm of couture.
The illustrations by these ten tattoo artists will also become mural artwork that encapsulates the marriage and evolution of fashion and the art of tattoo – in a way that audience have never seen before. DIY tattoo art experience will be provided for general visitors to partake and create their own T-shirts and tote bags with the tattoo illustrations by the ten tattoo artists. In parallel, K11 Showcases will also present the stories behind each of these tattoo artists, including their views on the connection between fashion and tattoo.
