“In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” This celebrated comment was made by Andy Warhol and he nailed it. He also led the iconoclastic Pop Art movement in the 1960s that has blurred the line between high and low culture, which eventually demystified and democratised art. In the coming June, K11 takes a look at the new-generation Pop power in the K11 WONDER POP Exhibition featuring two millennial artists, namely the French pop art artist Jean Jullien and Spanish illustrator Okokume. Jean is recognisable for his use of vivid colours and satirical humour. He will be showcasing over 30 cartoonish paintings that encapsulate everyday life with three themes of food, work and social relations. For the celebrative occasion of K11’s 10th anniversary, Jean has created a 5-metre-tall customised ‘Bright Idea’, a comical figure with a lightbulb for head, and an array of Pop-style artworks to delve deep into the relationship between man and technology. Meanwhile, Okokume communicates her rosy vision of the future through Cosmic Girl in a dreamy world where man lives in harmony with nature. Her surrealist takes on Pop art, as well as her cheerful and starry-eyed creative ethos, will also dazzle visitors in the exhibition. Meanwhile, Jean and Okokume has created 8 selfie hotspots for visitors to take a photo with “People Mural” or design a Bright Idea emoji and Make a Wish in dreamy world to bring your fantasy to life. What’s more, some of their works will be reproduced as posters and other goodies, including an Okokume illustrated storybook and vinyl toys, for fans to take home with them!

5m Lightbulb Man Lends Himself to the Fun Expression of ‘Bright Idea’
UK-based French artist Jean Jullien has a cult following of over 900,000 fans on Instagram, with his posts shared and liked by many more. Jean boasts a remarkable array of creative talents, as evidenced by his constellation of works covering painting, photo, video, clothing, décor, book and poster, etc. For K11’s 10th anniversary, he has designed an exclusive 5-metre-tall ‘Bright Idea’ statue. This adorable character is one of Jean’s signature creations, instantly recognisable by his glowing lightbulb head and amusing facial expressions. For the 5-metre rendition for K11, Jean has designed a unique outfit for Bright Idea. The giant figure will be perching right out on K11 Piazza in his Hong Kong debut, greeting visitors with a smile while inviting them to search for the ‘eureka moment’ of their own.

Jean has also created a special edition mural (9-meter-long x 2.5-meter-wide) exclusively for the occasion of K11’s 10th anniversary, located at K11 Piazza entrance and 3/F.
Densely packed with heads, the artwork is a challenge not just for the artist to paint but also for visitors to spot the hidden Bright Idea within. Capture the ‘eureka’ moment in a photo taken with the Bright Idea at the bespoke 3D photo zone and be part of Jean’s wonder world.

An Ironic Look at Humanity in Tech Age through over 30 Childlike Paintings by Jean Jullien Famous for his catchy use of colours and quirky characters that reflect on everyday life, Jean’s works were featured in New Yorker, The Guardian and New York Times, to name but a few. In the upcoming exhibition, over 30 of his paintings will be stationed all over K11 to explore the relationship between man, work and technology, with focus on the impact of social media on interpersonal relationship, and challenge our intuitive understanding of daily rituals in a humorous manner. K11 Showcases will feature 11 art pieces by Jean Jullien, revolving around everyday life topics such as food, work, human relationships from a witty, inspiring angle. “THE ARRIVAL OF COSMIC GIRL” Exhibition with Much-coveted Cosmic Girl Plush Dolls
Okokume’s Cosmic World is a promise of a brighter future, where man, innocent as a child, exists in harmony with nature. The pink-haired Cosmic Girl is the heroine and guardian fairy of the Cosmic World. To ward off the invading evil spirits, she summons her friends Wind, Fire, Water and Earth to the rescue of this beautiful but fragile world. Cosmic Girl engages the audience in a mood of sheer happiness, inspiring in us the thoughts of protecting our world. For the 10th anniversary celebration, Okokume will guide our K11 Docent Juniors to draw the Cosmic Girl, immersing parents and kids in a fantastic world. On 3/F is part 1 of Okokume’s Cosmic Girl exhibition in a large “storybook” format. Take a selfie with the artwork to get a free pin at chi K11 art space!
